There are many ways to calibrate a digital scale, but this article will show you the easiest and least expensive way to do it. You can use these steps to calibrate any type of precision measuring device like micrometers, meter sticks, rulers, etc.

The CALIBRATION PROCESS:

1) Weigh a container filled with water and record that weight

2) Weigh the container on a scale you want to calibrate and record the value, do this several times.

3) Calculate the average of your recorded values, if it is a small number like 5 or 10 weigh at least 10 times, but if it's a larger number like 100 weigh at least 100 times and record the average.

4) Subtract your recorded value from the average of your recorded values by dividing (average - recorded). The result is the difference in weight and it's what we will use to calibrate your scale.

5) Weigh a container filled with water and add 0.5% of your difference in weight calculated earlier to the new weight.

6) Subtract this new value from your recorded value and you have calibrated your scale.
